Meet Turgle, The Halfling

WSS_Turgle.png|300
Turgle Fancyfoot of Virgin Weald

He was heading to Splitriver when he was taken up(?) by the Shambling Mound in his sleep.

Tying to get to know us all.

He's on a "bath-tickle" = sabbatical

Pim moved around a lot... like a military family... then he corrected/amended/reflected that to say a "militant family."

We will journey together to Splitriver

Camp for the Night

Go, Set a Watchman

We hear rumbles of thunder and a drizzle starts

Watch Who
1 Zelda
2 Pim and Turgle Fancyfoot
3 Deuce

Oh, to Sleep - but for a Fire and a Scream

Deuce

I felt like I had only just closed my eyes when Zelda roused us. She had taken first watch and I had third, so when I went down, I went down deep. But damned if coming to the aid of someone in need doesn't splash some water on your face.

At this point, the rain was also splashing on my face. She called out the smell of smoke and fire coming through the air, and just then we heard a scream - just as Zelda had moments earlier.

We left Turgle to watch the camp and Zelda granted Pim and me a great gift of deeper dark sight... I felt like I could see maybe 5x farther. Another surprise from our wolf-friend and Nix.

We quickly came upon the scene - a wagon with its canopy aflame with two small children and their parents defending their wares and themselves from a troop of goblins and a hobgoblin.

Pim yelled something in goblin to them, but it only brought the action to us. Honestly, I'm thankful for that. The family had no real defense, so anything to put space between the victims and the attackers was welcome.

Protecting Those in Danger

Deuce

Outnumbered, but far from outmatched!

Zelda followed me into the heart of the scene and immediately got the kids to safety. Taking soft targets away; she has good instincts for this kind of work! Also, her... or I suppose Nix's twilight sanctuary aura helped everybody! Buffeting strong and weak alike. A blessing, to be sure. She also caused something strange (and maybe terrifying?) again. As Pim struck down the hobgoblin and he started to fall, she... I don't know, overwhelmed him(?) using some grisley, blood-magic making him strike at - and kill - his compatriot. I don't get scared by much these days, but she... I don't know. I'm glad she fights with me.

Maybe inspired by knowing her kids were a bit safer, the mother landed a hit on a goblin with an table leg and later parried his strike! A joyful sight to me in this rainy disaster.

Simsa's blessings were guiding (and empowering) my stones, and using some fragmenting magicks I have practiced and used plenty, I was able to snuff out the band of three by the wagon and later the short-bowed set of three on the hillside.

Pim had his hands full with the hobgoblin and the other baddies and drew the focus of their leader. He also offered aid and inspiration to me to help land my hits. I could not have had the success I did without him.

As their leader saw the battle was lost, he retreated. I try to never let an assailant flee, but I was in no position to stop him, but Pim found extra strength deep in his belly and felled the bastard with a devastating shot from his crossbow.

The attackers were done for!

Battle Notes

Playernote

With Pim translating the goblin gibberish to common, it was like having a battle with a language dub

Zephyr Strike to get advantage (didn't help) and extra movement (that got me to the wife and kids)

Hail of Thorns UPCAST to 2nd level
blasts the 3 gobs by the wagon, all dead! woot!

Got an inspo and used the bardic (both from Pim) to knock out the short bow set of goblins.

Dnd-impact

Pim tracks boss man and shoots crossbow CRIT with MAX DMG and kills him!

Post Battle

Meet The Holderyns

Zelda maybe converts the family to Nix? Migi is ALL IN!

Arrival at Splitriver

Splitriver

The Next Day

We Are Here... and so is an Army

But, there's a problem... camped on the far side of the town on a hill side is a military regiment.

ADVANTAGE on next initiative for Deuce

from Zelda's vigilant blessing - lasts until used or cast again

maybe 100 well-geared, well-ordered soldiers
under the coat of arms of Karthan

unusual for a real army to be here

Daine Holderyn upset to see the army here
He tells of war and destruction all over the continent
They come in like machines and are relentless

The army is maybe 100,000+ men

Entering the Town

At the gates, we say we are from Copmora and are allowed in

We see

We note no soldiers patrolling in the town

Visiting the Armory

A heavyset elf armorer

Questions

Inn - Split 'Me River's Inn

Split 'Me River's Inn
Laurina owner
β€œtown gossip - do not fuck with”
2gp/night all inclusive.

This person and this place are... I don't know! But Zelda's rocking this vibe so luckily Deuce and Pim don't have to. I'm pretty sure that would not go well.

Pim and Deuce back out of that scene and go to find The Keeper (Keeper Mirek)
On the way, we can see this place is on its way to becoming a city

Keeper's House

An Officer and NOT a Gentleman

As we are about to enter, an Army Officer exits and bumps strongly into Deuce (Pim dodged out of the way). Deuce gets hit by him (accidentally, but unapologetically) he pauses but doesn't really regard Deuce. Deuce makes no trouble... but takes note of this person... for later.

Jacque Burnside

Jacque Burnside

We find an exasperated Keeper Mirek, who is otherwise occupied with concern about the Army at their gates.

We ask about the mark and the curse

Deuce asks after that soldier's name? Jacque Burnside

notes for next time...
