Deuce

Waking up today and, gods dammit, things are no clearer. I'm still in this backwoods swamp-town, miles from my last memories, accompanied by strangers who, by happenstance alone, are my only friends, and now I'm finding myself in the middle of not only a turf war but ALSO an ancient celestial curse?

that poor girl... Lillithene. We've got to do what we can.

I think we should pay a visit to the Wanderers and see how they smell.

Fiona sets out breakfast for us
We learn that The Mark took her husband ~2 years ago, and she thinks it was the Wanderers

Zelda and Pim come in
Pim to Fiona - Are there goblins around? She doesn't know much about that, but Pim's interest in the goblins is curious.

Deuce asks Zelda about her lycanthropy...

Recon mission to Jesse's House

Jesse
Pim picks the front door lock and Deuce and Pim wait outside while Zelda goes in
There is no sign of Jesse.

Deuce, smelling the wine, notes a heavy sedative (to calm grievously wounded soldiers)

East Road and into the Shallows

Deuce uses his strong survival tracking to suss out where The Wanderers camp might be.

Deuce

Not too far outside of the village, I found signs of a fairly recent confrontation. Maybe 4-5 townies squared off against 5-6 "others." Starting there, I tracked who I believe were The Wanderers trail. About a mile off, the trail veers off into the shallows and in another 30min in tracks start to get muddled.

Looking around, I found no land animals... only small fish and tadpoles. Maybe not too surprising for a swamp, but also not too helpful. While reflecting on this, Pim "helpfully" magicked up a rat from an old hat he had. I was looking for a creature to help us find the camp, and this rat wasn't likely to help. Just then, a hawk swept down and snatched the little fella. Maybe the rat could help. As quickly as I could, I cast Animal Friendship followed by Speak with Animals. And that's how I met Featherwind.

Hawk "Featherwind"

Featherwind
Pim pulled out a 2nd rat and we got some intel on the camp.

We went stealthy from there.
More creatures around, and these were not scared by our movements

Wanderer's Encampment

Wanderer's Encampment

Pim parlays with guard captain

And gains entry to the camp... but we weren't really sure what to do with that...

Pim learns

Zelda with "impaired brother" Deuce

Zelda tells of being drugged
Deuce, was supposed to stay quiet, but doesn't. Admits to knowing Pim in an attempt to... I don't know... mix it up and may be get back together? Didn't matter.

Zelda and Deuce end up leaving and Pim "escapes" unnoticed.

What next? head to Splitriver?

Encounter on the way to Splitriver

Splitriver

Deuce

  • As we worked our way out of the shallows and back towards the main road to head up to Splitriver big mound of swamp roots and brush stood as a barrier... Do we go over or around?
  • Pim had a great idea to freeze up the water in the brush and make it brittle and easy to break. Zelda and I had a GREATER idea, for him to mold some earth into a staircase up one side, and on the other, shape some water into a slide/ice luge.
  • Ah, nevermind! It's a big swamp beasty!
    • With some kind of an invisible friend too!
  • I am ashamed to say I was caught by surprise and was without any pebbles ready. So, in a dash, I blessed my friends and began to charge up some pebbles.
  • Zelda was attacked by the invisible bloke and faced off with it one-on-one
    • See my notes below
  • Pim and I stood against the big green bogan for a spell
    • I wailed away at it with my pebbles and man was I fuckin' nailing it!
    • Pim brought out that shadow blade of his again... I was happy to see it, much happier than last time... when Brand poked him when he was passed out.

Zelda

Deuce

  • She took a bad gash, and that's when it got terrifying... she shifted... or changed... or whatever
    • Her bones looked like they were growing and bulging and breaking and twisting.
  • In this form, she sniffed at the air and caught the scent of her own wound's blood on the claws of the unseen bloke. She tracked him right quick and tore away at him like a beast.
  • She got beat up pretty bad and screamed at me a couple of times to move away from her. She's really independent but I'm sure (in time) she'll see how teamwork makes the dream work!

Deuce thinks her wanting him to move away from her was more of their loner, "I don't need anyone's help" persona. He is not aware that she could very easily attack him against her will when she is under a certain HP. She beat her save twice (at least) to not attack.
